Story of the Painter Růžena Zátková
Alena Pomajzlová
The book is the first large monograph focused on the painter Růžena Zátková whose life story and work are remarkable in many regards. Beginning in 1910, she lived and worked in Rome in the circle of the Italian futurists and the Russian avant-garde. For example, she was acquaintaned with Umberto Boccioni and Igor Stravinsky and she worked together with Giacomo Balla, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Natalia Goncharova and Mikhail Larionov. These contacts and inspirational artistic environment led her to make innovative and experimental work – abstractions and mixed media assemblages with kinetic elements which were unmatched by anything created in the Czech milieu of the time. With this book and after almost a hundred years, the life and work of this unjustly forgotten artist returns in the context of Czech and European culture. The book is produced in a bilingual Czech and English edition.
