Stanislav Kolíbal - Drawings, Sculptures, Commentaries

Stanislav Kolíbal

The book Drawings, Sculptures, Commentaries by Stanislav Kolíbal, published in conjunction with his large retrospective at the Egon Schiele Art Centre in Český Krumlov, is based on a principle unknown heretofore: the art is commented on by the artist himself. This interpretation method bridges the distance between the author and the reader, enabling the reader to step into the author’s world and discover his inspiration and the meaning hidden behind the individual artworks. Divided into 25 chapters, the book is a guide to Kolíbal’s oeuvre, revealing the sources of his inspiration, historical background, philosophy and intentions. It helps the reader to accept and make sense of Kolíbal’s highly sophisticated art. Indeed, Kolíbal’s work does not require interpretation but a commentary. A case in point is his work in the architectural field, exhibition projects, including the permanent exhibition in Veletržní Palace (National Gallery in Prague), or his large work in illustration and typography.

The book is produced in a trilingual Czech, German and English edition
