Prague Fashion Houses 1900—1948

The book presents a comprehensive overview of the history of the most important fashion houses in Prague, such as the house of Hana Podolská, Oldřich Rosenbaum, Arnoštka Roubíčková and František Bárta, and introduces the development of fashion design from the late 19th century to 1948. It follows the development of the craft of tailoring, its transformation in couture, influences coming from the world of fashion, the transformation of tailors from craftsmen to artists and businessmen. In addition, it presents the extraordinary stories of the owners of the fashion houses against the background of topical historical turning points. The book Prague Fashion Houses 1900–1948 is an important contribution to the cultural history of Czech society.
