Ludmila Vachtová

Eva Kmentová (1928-1980) was one of the greatest personalities on the Czech postwar art scene. Like her husband Olbram Zoubek, she was a member of the legendary group Trasa. Under communism she was not allowed to exhibit and her only larger monograph came out as samizdat. The author of the monograph published on the occasion of a great retrospective in the Mánes gallery in Prague is Ludmila Vachtová, a legend of Czech art history living in Switzerland. Besides an introductory essay the book contains a reminiscence written by Olbram Zoubek and extensive citations of Eva Kmentová’s own texts. The book was awarded the second prize in the competition “Most beautiful book of 2006”, organized by the Czech Ministry of Culture and the Museum of Czech Literature.
