  • Translation: Jitka Hamzová
  • Editor: Stanislav Kolíbal

Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966), the most significant Swiss sculptor and painter living in Paris was influenced by neo-impressionism as well as cubism and surrealism, however, the most important part of his work is linked with suprematism. Giacometti’s primary concern was with preserving the infinity in space. His sculptures are often solitary objects that emphasize the isolation and vulnerability of individuals. The element of solitude inspired the philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre to label Alberto Giacometti one of the most important existential artists. This representative anthology focuses particularly on the issues of art production.
