Memories, Diaries and Essays

Paul Klee

  • Translation: Alena Bláhová
  • Editor: Stanislav Kolíbal

Paul Klee (1879-1940) belonged to the first and most original artistic generation of the 20th century, that of fauvists, cubists, expressionists and early exponents of abstract art. He neither established an art movement nor did he belong to any. He was an independent artist whose value was equivalent to that of the founders of modern movements. Klee is one of a few thinkers capable of analyzing the existential situation of an artist in the modern world so accurately. As demonstrated by this edition, composed of extracts from his diaries and the essay “Modern Art”, his literary work is a proof.
