Forgotten Painter Bohumil Konečný
Tomáš Pospiszyl
The painter, illustrator and advertising designer Bohumil Konečný (1918 – 1990) supplied graphics to hundreds of magazine stories and books. He was known under the nickname “Bimba” to readers of Mladý hlasatel, Vpředu or Rozruch; he illustrated the stories of Otakar Batlička and novels of Jaroslav Foglar. The first retrospective catalogue of his work, resembling in its form a comic book, offers a glimpse of some of the less known streams of Konečný’s work: advertisements for the Baťa company, pictures of Czech pin-up girls, comic strips and posters for export firms of the 1950s.
