Food - Eva Švankmajerová and Jan Švankmajer

A monograph published on the occasion of a retrospective exhibition at the Riding Hall of the Prague Castle is a follow-up to the book Evašvankmajerjan – Anima Animus Animace. Here, the painter, graphic artist and poetess Eva Švankmajerová (1940-2005) and the film director cum graphic artist Jan Švankmajer (1934) are illuminated from an imaginative perspective by a number of their colleagues from the Czechoslovak and French surrealist group; they present their work ranging from film to free art form, covering also the more recent themes (medium-based drawings, collections of art brut and African art…). The book is divided into two sections, “Mental morphology” and “Subversiveness of imagination”, and is complete with biography, bibliography, a list of exhibitions and a filmography.
