Emil Přikryl (1945), one of the purest Czech architects and university teachers, is significant in the history of contemporary Czech architecture for both his art work and his moral approach. In 2009 he was awarded the Honor of the Czech Chamber of Architects. The full-color monograph of Emil Přikryl and His School (published on the occassion of the mentioned award) records Přikryl’s important projects and brings together architectural designs of the most distinctive pupils of this charismatic professor at the School of Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and a former member of the renown SIAL in Liberec. The book presents both realized and unrealized projects such as the Gallery of Benedikt Rejt in Louny, which is one of the most successful museum buildings in the Czech Republic, the museum in Most, finishing touches to the Messepalast in Vienna, the Uran shopping centre in Česká Lípa, the Opera Bastille in Paris, the IBA family home and Tegeler Hafen in Berlin, Věra Chytilová’s villa in Prague, the church of.Prokop Holý in Teplice, and the consulate in Shanghai. The book is introduced with scholarly texts by experts on Přikryl’s work and provides a comprehensive overview on his architectural school.
