Dokoupil 100
Christian Domínguez, Luca Marenzi, Jiří Ptáček
As one of the few Czech artists of the post-war era who has won recognition in the international art scene, Jiří Georg Dokoupil (1954), is most often associated with the post-modern style of painting, developed mainly in Germany and Italy throughout the eighties and nineties. His works are difficult to define as a whole due to the endless diversity of his artistic styles; they mirror the author’s conviction that in art the act of searching is more important than that of finding. The only constant in his works is their changeability. Dokoupil can be seen as an artist-inventor, working tirelessly within various energetic fields, as he refers to his sources of inspiration by which he is surrounded and fascinated at any given moment. The artist has successfully presented his works at leading international art fairs and renowned galleries worldwide. The publication comprises texts and reproductions and is focused on his most recent works – from the wide array of the original “Dokoupilesque” techniques, special attention is paid to the following three: smoke (candle) compositions, soap-bubble pictures and the latest large-scale film panels.
