Apartment and Landscape
Ladislav Žák, Dita Dvořáková
Ladislav Žák focused on practical and theoretical issues of housing, furniture design and later on the solution of then particularly topical task of minimal apartment for lower social class. In the 30’s, he designed a group of remarkable functionalist family houses in Prague district Baba, with a varying scheme of connected open common rooms and individual housing cells, which he further elaborated in his plans of collective housing facilities. He was particularly concerned with the connection of the building to the outdoor, open space and the environment – landscape gardening. Later, after giving up the architecture practice, he started to concentrate on the issues of landscape design and environment protection. Apart from the opening study, the book contains series of Žák’s unpublished texts. The illustrations sum up all his architectonic and other relating works.
