"I do not believe in death, because when it comes, you're not here."
AW
The theme of death was present in the creation of Andy Warhol throughout his life. Was it for him a pose, or the way how to cope with the death of his mother, whose funeral he was not able to attend? Or was he fascinated by black and white skulls showing a perfect embodiment of pop-culture and replication works? Andy Warhol wanted his paintings to stay unfinished, he wanted more and more artists to work on them. With images of skulls he created of the whole society.
"After death we are all very similar. We do not need make-up, the dentist ... nothing. It is the definitive portrait that remains and not the end!"
