Objects of Art, Witnesses of Time. Group 42

Exhibition in West Bohemia Gallery in Plzen

The private collection from Moravia of Group 42 artists includes art work from the war and early post-war periods as well as paintings, early drawings and photograms from the pre-group period of the 1930s.  For the recognition of Group 42 this collection is of special importance as the unique character of most of the works amplifies the interpretative possibilites of seemingly well-known artists.

The exhibition represents a remarkable set of paintings, drawings, photographs, prints and sculptures providing distinctive examples of  the work of all the Group 42 members. The publication does not include a complex assessment of Group 42, the aim is rather to connect the results of the existing research on the theme while making use of the work of the poets from Group 42 and suggest themes which would contribute to a better understanding of the work by such artists as František Hudeček, František Gross, Miroslav Hák, Ladislav Zívr, Kamil Lhoták, and Jan Smetana.

The curator of the exhibition and author of the book is Marie Klimešová.
